Auction Item Descriptions - How to Create Yours

Let’s begin with the title. The title is the bait and the body
of the description is the hook. Both combined will reel in your
bidders like a hooked fish. Putting as much information as you
can into the body will entice them to see more.

Crafting a title is not as easy as one might think. Use words
that are clear and inspire pictures in their heads. What type of
words would get you to keep reading?
People sell furniture on eBay. Saying that a table is just a
table will not get any nibbles, at least not serious ones. What
is characteristic about the table? Is it for a dollhouse or your
house? Be specific.
Say that the item is a “Oak Farmhouse Table, brick red,
stressed.” Now, the bidder sees a large table (farmhouse) that
is sturdy and well made (oak) with character (stressed). Now
they are ready to see pictures.
What can you say about this table? Your bait is in the water.
This is not supposed to be a school report so avoid using too
many flowery words. If it’s going to be hard to narrow down the
attributes of your table, include the most important features
that would interest any buyer.
Knowing all about your product makes it easier to come up with a
decent description. We’ll stop talking about tables and move on
to printers. They are a necessary item for work and home.
Important features include: the type of copies it produces, how
many per minute and if it copies, faxes and scans also.
The answers to these questions help to flesh out your
description. Here’s an example:
All-in-One Printer, HP DeskJet F4235, 6 months old
Prints color copies (15ppm) and black (20ppm)
Removable lid for scanning
Copier
Photo printing (color 60, black 60)
USB cable included with printer
This description provides all of the information that a bidder
needs to make an informed choice about a price they are willing
to pay. Hewlett-Packard is a leader in the computer technology
industry so they know they will be getting a well manufactured
product.
Include as much information as you can in as few words in your
auction description for anything you sell on eBay. Form a
picture with words so they will continue to click through and
see your actual pictures.
