Become a Direct Sales Rep: Consider This Before You Start

If you want your own business and control over your potential
earnings, direct sales can be a rewarding and lucrative choice
of career.
As your own boss, you choose when you want to work and how
much you plan to earn, perhaps so that you can buy some luxuries
for yourself, like a fancy car or good jewelry. It's worth doing
some background checking, because although there are many
reputable companies, there are some which are scams, and will
simply take your money for no return.

Before you sign up with a direct sales company, these are some
of the things you should consider carefully.
Pick Good Products
Before you put money into a product to sell, make sure it's well
invested. If you like the product you can market it with
enthusiasm. If you don't, what makes you think other people will
buy it from you? Your sales contribute to your recruiter's
earnings, so don't ever succumb to pressure to sign up that
isn't in your interests. Signing up to help friends and family
is not a good idea - you need to have better motivation.
Is Your Recruiter Rich?
Because money flows along the line, or chain of sellers and
recruiters, knowing how the person who signed you up is doing
can give you clues. How well is he or she, and in turn, his or
her up line, earning? If your recruiter is battling, then
whatever the problem is could affect your prospects too. You're
perfectly entitled to inquire.
Know Your Companies
Before committing yourself, find out all you can about any
company that you're considering joining. Has it been around a
while, demonstrating that it has the acumen and staying power to
keep afloat? Direct sales companies open and close and you want
to be with one that knows how to keep going. New companies can
be great, but you certainly won't know that if you don't find
out about its owners, sales reps and operations.
Ensure the Product is For Real
Make sure that there really is something there worth selling.
Some direct sale companies flog the idea of business ownership,
perhaps with some business services added for good measure, but
that service isn't always worth selling. Some companies are
looking for people who don't know the ropes to join them at the
bottom of the company so that those higher up the line can make
money off them.
These are the four golden rules for people considering work in
the direct sales field. Make sure the company and products are
right for you. Protect yourself and make sure they're not a
fly-by-night operation that is out to take your money instead of
providing you with income. Do the research that will allow you
to judge when things are above board and when they aren't, and
never commit to becoming a sales rep for a company unless you're
satisfied.
