Direct Sales Team - Tips to Finding a Good Leader

Direct Sales Team

When you start out in direct sales it will be a great help if you have supportive people to work with. Your ideal recruiter will want to motivate and encourage you and see you succeed. How can you assess what your up line leader will be like to work with? Here are some things to think about.

It will be much easier to know what kind of leader someone is if you already know them personally. Perhaps you've met your recruiter by hosting parties for them or going to one they've organized. Here are some questions to help you decide what sort of leader they might be if you sign up with them.

* What attitude do they convey about the products and direct sales company?
* Is hosting parties only for money or do they get more out of it?
* Do they provide accurate, positive answers to your questions?
* Is their work something they really enjoy?
* After the party, did a feeling of excitement and optimism stay with you?
* Do they have a sound reputation in the local area?

Good leaders are those who have achieved business success themselves. Try asking questions about their own goals and how they reached them. Ask how about their attitude to helping others reach their targets. If their company offers an auto incentive with a prize car - and that's what they're driving - that's a good indication that they really are successful. Pins and other visible signs of success are awarded to some successful consultants. What can you see that demonstrates their success?

A leader who meets regularly with the team and consistently trains and motivates team members is the ideal up line. Ask whether regular meetings are held. Steer clear of leaders who only schedule meetings occasionally or not at all. A good leader will know how important regular meetings are for the team's success. These people know that the success of their team is partly in their hands and they take their responsibility seriously.

Not all companies give you the option of choosing your own up line leader, but if you have the choice then these suggestions can help you to use it wisely, to find an up line who has your interests in mind, not just their own. The qualities you want in a leader are reliability, consistency, an upbeat and positive approach and demonstrable experience in delivering the goods. Good leaders support you no matter whether things are going well or looking shaky. If things aren't going to plan they work to boost you and get you back on track. In the good times they are happy for you and put the effort in to make sure things stay that way.
