
Direct Sales Motivation: Get It Back Again

Did you start out in your direct sales business full of
energy and get-up-and-go? Did you have visions of lines of
people signing up to sell and sales to match? That seems like a
long time ago. The enthusiasm has waned. You're not getting
where you want to and this business sometimes seems like a big
mistake.
Don't think that way! You can rekindle your energy and get
excited about it again. Here are some tips to help you reboot
your system.

1. Rethink Your Goals.
If you haven't been hitting the targets, berating yourself won't
help. Analyze your mistakes. Setting unrealistically high
targets could be the problem. Or was it that you set them too
low and missed out on the satisfaction of achieving something
that you really want? If you can re-think your goals and set
yourself a program geared towards rewarding results you can
recapture your motivation.
2. Get Inspiration From Colleagues
How do other people stay inspired? Ask your fellow reps, team
members and colleagues, using them as role models and learning
lessons from their ways of staying enthusiastic. If you can
motivate others, that can be helpful to you, too.
3. Remember Starting Out
You were probably excited and full of anticipation - why? Think
about the reasons for your enthusiasm back then. Was it the
flexibility that owning your own business can give? Was it the
incentivization the company offered? Whatever it was, think back
and see if you can recapture that sense of excitement.
4. Previous Customers Are Future Customers
It's worth keeping in touch with past customers. They can be a
large part of your clientele.
5. Your Recruiter Can Help
If you run out of previous customers to contact see if your
recruiter can give you leads - from former reps or they may even
be willing to send some of their own contacts your way if they
don't have the time.
6. Revisit Your Product
Remind yourself how worthwhile your product is by pulling it out
and using it again.
7. Move Out Inventory
If you have out of season goods that you can present to
customers, you can call people with a value for money offer.
8. Your Company Can Motivate You
Direct sales companies know that motivating reps is crucial and
may have materials such as CDs or videos to help you. Take some
time out to watch them. Your team meetings with people who've
faced the same issues can help to give you a boost.
Anything can become boring in time, but it doesn't have to be
permanent. If you actively work on your motivation you can get
back on track. Business success is all about riding out the
tough times. You CAN make it!
