Starting a Handyman Business

If you are good at building and repairing things then try turning that into a successful business. Due to the failing economy handymen are becoming more in demand because they are generally cheaper than large companies and still do quality work. There are also many people out there that just lack the knowledge to do basic home improvements. As long as things break there will be a need for someone to fix it.
The key to starting a successful handyman business is being
respectful to your customers, return their calls and be on time
for your appointments. Do quality work and stand behind the work
you do, you want people to have confidence in the work you do.
Charge accordingly, if you do high quality work you can charge a
little more for what you do. A great deal of your work will be
returning customers and referrals from your customers so the
more customers you make happy the more business you will get.
You will need a good variety of tools to become a handyman. The
good news is that if you need a new tool for a job you can just
go out and buy it. During the estimate you will see what you
need for the job and be able to come to the jobsite prepared. It
wouldn't hurt to have a dependable friend you can call if you
need help with a project. If it becomes a profitable business
and you enjoy doing the work you may want to expand a little and
get a contractor or builders license to open up even more
possibilities.
