Start a Home Based Art Business – Be An Artist

Do you have several art works in your attic? Things you did from high school, when the teacher told you that you were very talented? Have you ever tried to sell one of your paintings? Perhaps a home-based business is the thing for you. We all need extra money these days, with the financial situation teetering, so why not dust off your paints and palette and go for the gold?

Fine art is always a sought- after commodity, and while you may not be Van Gogh or Picasso, you probably have your own style and ideas about what art is. Brush up on your technique and put it to use with a home-based business that you can oversee with very little financial outlay. A room or part of a room in the house is all you will need in the beginning.

First, try to see what the market is looking for, and fit into that niche, if possible. You could sell in your home town or on the net. After doing a few small paintings or water colors, take them to a local cafe and see if they will display them for a small percentage of whatever you sell. If you are living in an historical area, take full advantage of that and

put on canvas local historic sites. These could sell throughout the country. Talk to the museum curator about an exhibit. Remember that you must have a professional product to sell, so get to work taking an art course at night school.

If you are going for the net also, you must have a web site, a name for your business such as “Art’s Art,” or “Creative Canvasses,” and have an easy payment plan, such as Pay Pal. Price your work fairly and show it to its best advantage on the website. If you have only a couple of paintings, show them as ‘special’ works.

If you love painting and have a flair, there is no reason why you should not go ahead with a plan for a home-based business. There is a market for art, and once you find it the rest will be smooth sailing.
