Starting a Laundromat Business

Do you do enough laundry at home that you might as well make
a business out of it? A Laundromat can be a very profitable
business if done correctly. It is one business where you don’t
have much in the way of inventory or product so you don’t need
to worry about selling anything or keeping your shelves stocked
with products. Just give your customers a clean place to do
their laundry with working machines and you can do well.

Some good places to think about for your new Laundromat would
be near a college campus or next to a large apartment complex.
In these areas you have a large concentration or potential
customers that are less likely to own their own washers and
dryers. Choose a building that will give you enough space for
all of your machines and room to expand if you need to. I say
room to expand because you don’t want to start off too big and
have a lot of machines just sitting around not being used
costing you money. The other side of the coin is that you don’t
want people waiting for an open machine either. Start out
conservative with room to grow.
You will want to keep some small packs of detergent, softener,
and bleach for your customers who run out or forget to bring it.
Another thing is put some televisions, video games, or something
else of your choice in your Laundromat for your customers do so
they don’t get bored while waiting. If they don’t have a good
overall experience they will be less likely to come back.
One more quick note, if you learn how to repair your own
machines you can save a lot of money. A decent repairman can
cost you $100 an hour and they are never in a hurry. They are
simple in their construction and not terrible to work on.
