First, there is no such thing as a national realtor license.
Each individual state that you wish to sell property in has
separate requirements, courses and tests. Regulations vary from
state to state, but may include things such as minimum age,
certain education and or experience, working under a licensed
broker, application fees and more. Most states also call for
realtors to take continuing education courses every few years.
Due to frequent changes, be sure to check into your state’s
individual licensing requirements for becoming a realtor.
One way you can find out what your state’s guidelines are is to
search online. For instance, if you live in California,
searching terms such as “California real estate license
requirements” will result in various websites you can to for
further information. You can also go to the main government site
for your state for details of getting your real estate license.
Another place you may want to inquire for more guidance is
Realtor.org.
Another way to get your foot in the door is to visit a reputable
real estate company in your area and talk to a real estate agent
or broker there. Many companies, such as Re/Max and Century 21,
will pay for their salespeople to get the accreditation
necessary to sell real estate. This might be an option to
consider if you want to eventually run your own real estate
business, but don’t possess the skills or training necessary to
do so.
The tips above are just the beginning of becoming a realtor and
are for those who wish to sell real estate in the United States
specifically. If you’re interested in starting a career as a
realtor in Canada or the UK, you can visit the following
websites to find more information.
