A travel writer gets paid to travel around the world, try out hotels, restaurants, tourist attractions and more. Sounds pretty good, doesn't it?

Get a head start: Get your step-by-step travel writing guide here.

As a travel writer, you might work for guide book publishers, travel magazines, newspapers and websites. Or you could even create your own travel publication. There is no special training or education required to get started.

Things you'll need to do and learn (and this step-by-step guide here will take you through everything):

  • Researching information about the destinations you'll be writing about.
  • Putting together effective itinerarys that allow you to fully investigate your destinations.
  • Understanding a variety of cultures.
  • Ensuring you have up-to-date and all the required documentations (passport, visas, etc.)
  • Writing query letters as part of the process of selling your articles.
  • Preparing book proposals if you want to write a travel book.
  • Establishing relationships with editors and other publishers.
  • Writing effectively so that readers are engaged in your writing and so they can easily get the information they need.
